DI Civic Association Annual Meeting

All Davis Islands residents are invited to attend the Davis Islands Civic Association’s Annual Meeting on November 14th starting at 6:30pm (DI Garden Club). As in years past this is an opportunity to learn about next year’s activities, events and initiatives. Also it is a great chance to socialize with fellow neighbors.

Fantastic Halloween in the Village Turnout 2017!

This years Halloween in the Village was a huge success, with more families and dogs than ever before.
First, a big shout out to Jenn Fadal of Wag Natural Pet Market for creating and organizing this event each year.  This was the 8th Annual event and the number of participants continue to increase.
Second, a special thank you to PROforma or all of the fantastic goody bags with so much swag.  Five-hundred goody bags were passed out with tons of toys and treats for the kids. And thank you to Fountain Mediterranean who graciously welcomes all kids, parents and dogs to take over their stage and patio that day.
Third, this event would not have been possible without the continued sponsorship of Islands and off-Islands businesses.

Book of the Month

As a young child and teenager I did not like to read and would avoid at all costs.  That has changed as I became an adult and now have a child of my own.  Each month I work to read 2 to 3 books and I thought it would be fun to pass what is on my bookself or in most cases my iPad.  This past month’s book is “Relentless: From Good to Great to Unstoppable” written by Tim Grover.  Tim is the training and conditioning coach for basketball greats like Michael Jordan, Dwayne Wade and Kobe Bryant.  This book really captures the essence of what is necessary to truly be at an elite level in anything you do and in particular the mental attitude.  It is a quick read and many of his example with his professional athletes are entertaining.
I am always seeking new books to read so if you have a favorite let me know!

Halloween in the Village

Join the Davis Islands Businesses as they host the 8th Annual Halloween in the Village on October 28th from 11am-3pm.  As in years past the day is full of exciting activities.

  • Trick or Treat in the DI Village (11am – 2pm)
  • Caricature Artist (11am-2pm)
  • Pet Costume Contest (12:30pm)
  • Silly Sam’s Halloween Show (1:00pm)
  • Kid’s Costume Contest (2:15pm)
  • Chance Drawing (2:45pm)

 

Underground Utilities

While some would consider power lost on Davis Islands a common occurrence, the impact of Hurricane Irma on creating an extended power outages to the Islands was more eye opening.
The issue of underground utilities has been on the Davis Islands Civic Association’s action item list for awhile, and with the most recent outage, this issue could be gaining some traction.   In particular, there is a subcommittee within the association that has been working with our City Council representatives to develop City Ordinances that would allow communities like ours to underground their aerial lines.
Currently, Hillsborough County has such an ordinance and the Dana Shores community served as a pilot program.  While there are varying opinions on whether to underground or not,  the first goal is to at least have an ordinance at the City level that would allow communities to evaluate, discuss and decide on the issue.

The most recent information from the City of Tampa regarding debris collection from Hurricane Irma began on Sept 14th and will continue through October 13th.  Debris should be separated as follows click here

Movies in the Park is back!  With the screening of Monsters Inc., so mark your calendars now for October 21st, starting at 7pm at the Sandra Freedman Tennis Complex.  As always this is a FREE, FUN & FAMILY event hosted by the Davis Islands Civic Association.

Cars and Coffee

Join the duPont Registry on Saturday September 17th at our own Peter O. Knight Airport for their “Cars and Coffee”  Event from 7am to 12pm. Admission is FREE for spectators/participants and is a wonderful opportunity to see classic cars and vintage planes.  Additionally, there will be stunt planes and a fighter jet!  In the past this event has brought out great crowds!

Bayshore Little League Registration Extended

The Fall 2017 registration for Bayshore Little League has been extended until September 4th.  Now is a fantastic opportunity to take advantage of the extended deadline and register your child for the Fall season.  Whether they are just starting out or have been playing for awhile, Bayshore Little League is a great organization providing athletic opportunities for our children, and its located right here on Davis Islands!
